Security Deposit Tips
Document Everything
Take photos and videos of the entire property at move-in. Note any existing damage on the move-in checklist. This protects your deposit when you leave.
Know Your Rights
Landlords must return your deposit within a specific timeframe (usually 14-30 days) and provide an itemized list of any deductions.
Normal Wear and Tear
Landlords cannot deduct for normal wear and tear: faded paint, minor carpet wear, small nail holes. Only actual damage beyond normal use is chargeable.
